Anthony S. Rust
As Senior Advisor for Financial Markets, Anthony Rust heads up Liberty Square Group’s Government Procurement, Business Development and Global Financial Markets Practice. Mr. Rust has over twenty-two years of professional experience, seventeen years being spent as an alternative investment and capital markets investment executive.
Prior to joining the Liberty Square Group, Mr. Rust co-founded and served as a Senior Managing Partner of a billion dollar private equity firm under the Newport Capital, Inc. brand. During his tenure, the firm managed $1 billion in institutional assets and invested in approximately 60 private equity funds, venture capital funds and direct co-investments. As Senior Managing Partner, he was responsible for business development, portfolio management, investment due diligence and the overall management of the firm. In his operating executive capacity, Mr. Rust was in charge of executing the corporate growth strategy of the firm. Mr. Rust served as a member of the board of advisors of nine companies e.g. SYNCOM, MPM BioVentures, Ascend Ventures Group, Pequot Ventures, SJF Ventures, Nogales Investors, Psilos Group, Tudor Ventures and New Mexico Community Capital.
In addition, Mr. Rust oversaw Newport Capital’s private and capital markets advisory practice which specialized in private equity, venture capital and hedge fund related capital transactions. Within this practice, he was involved in the structuring of over $3.5 billion capital transactions.
Prior to founding Newport Capital, Inc., Mr. Rust was an Investment Banker with the First Albany Corporation, providing investment banking services to a multitude of institutional clients. As an Investment Banker, he was involved in the structuring and underwriting of multi-million dollar senior managed financing transactions and co-managed financing transactions. In addition, he assisted in providing financial advisory services for several structured finance clients, authorities and issuers and in the issuance of multi-million dollar financing transactions. He also provided quantitative analysis through self-designed and custom built in-house financial modeling software that provided financial plans and investment portfolios, performed cash flows and structured debt service options.
Mr. Rust’s professional career also includes having served as a Government Relations Specialist, Legislative Aide and Financial Analyst all within the industries of government, politics and public affairs.
Mr. Rust has a bachelor’s degree in political science from Tufts University and a master’s degree in political management from The George Washington University. He holds Series 7, 24 and 63 investment securities licenses.
